Thibaut Courtois Reveals the Truth About Kylian Mbappé’s Injury Amid Real Madrid’s Victory

Real Madrid triumphed 3-2 over Atalanta in a thrilling Champions League match, but attention quickly turned from the result to concerns about Kylian Mbappé’s fitness. The French star netted a spectacular goal in the 11th minute but was forced to leave the field just nine minutes later, holding the back of his left thigh.

Though there were initial worries about a serious injury, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois reassured supporters in a post-match interview with Movistar+. “I don’t think it’s serious,” Courtois commented. “He stopped at the right moment. Maybe he’ll miss the weekend’s match, but nothing more.” His statement implied that Mbappé’s substitution was a precautionary measure, alleviating fears of a prolonged absence.

A Resilient Performance

Even after Mbappé’s early exit, Real Madrid displayed strong resolve. Following his goal, Vinícius Jr. and Jude Bellingham took charge in the second half to secure the win. Courtois acknowledged the difficulties posed by Atalanta, who currently lead Serie A: “It’s always tough here. They’re at the top of their league and performing well in the Champions League. Their pressing caused us problems, and the penalty we conceded wasn’t random.”

Atalanta’s penalty, converted by Charles De Ketelaere, leveled the score, putting pressure on Real Madrid. However, the Spanish side responded with resilience in the final stages to claim the victory.

Looking Ahead

The win strengthens Real Madrid’s position in their pursuit of a spot in the Champions League round of 16. Courtois stressed the importance of maintaining momentum, particularly with home matches against Salzburg and Brest on the horizon. “At home, we need to capitalize and keep this rhythm going,” he concluded.

While fans can relax knowing Mbappé’s injury isn’t severe, his availability for the weekend remains uncertain. Real Madrid will hope for his swift recovery as they look to build on this important win.
